The challenge
A leading Korean pharmaceutical company was preparing to strengthen the global supply network for one of its key products. To support continued commercialisation and future international expansion, it needed an additional API manufacturing partner, one with the technical capability, production capacity, quality systems and regulatory support to serve several markets at once.
Finding a manufacturer was the smallest part of the problem. The project required technology transfer, manufacturing scale-up, demand forecasting, regulatory requirements, quality responsibilities, commercial expectations and long-term supply planning to be coordinated across companies operating in different countries.
Kyodo's role
Kyodo bridged the commercial and operational relationship between the Korean pharmaceutical company and a qualified Indian API manufacturer.
Working alongside our Korean partner, we acted as the central coordination and commercial interface between the two companies: keeping the technical, commercial, regulatory and supply discussions aligned with each other as the partnership took shape.
What Kyodo did
- Coordinating communication between the pharmaceutical company and the API manufacturer
- Supporting discussions on technology transfer and manufacturing scale-up
- Facilitating demand forecasting and long-term production planning
- Supporting commercial and supply-chain coordination
- Aligning manufacturing capacity with anticipated market demand
- Coordinating discussions on quality, audits and regulatory requirements
- Supporting development of a long-term strategic supply framework
- Preparing the manufacturing relationship for expansion into further international markets
The solution
Rather than treating the project as a conventional buyer–supplier transaction, Kyodo helped establish a long-term strategic manufacturing partnership.
The resulting framework made the Indian manufacturer a key manufacturing partner, and built in mechanisms for long-range and rolling demand forecasts, production planning, quality management, regulatory cooperation and future supply expansion.
That structure gives the pharmaceutical company visibility over future manufacturing capacity, and gives the manufacturer the ability to plan production as commercialisation expands. Kyodo remains positioned between the parties: coordinating communication, resolving commercial and operational issues, and supporting the relationship as it continues to develop.
Rather than a conventional buyer–supplier transaction, a long-term strategic manufacturing partnership.
A platform for global expansion
The partnership was structured not only to meet existing commercial requirements but to provide a foundation for expansion into additional regulated markets, including Japan, Europe and the United States.
By connecting pharmaceutical technology and commercial demand with capable Indian manufacturing, Kyodo helps partners build supply networks that grow alongside their international business.
What this demonstrates
This project shows Kyodo operating well beyond traditional pharmaceutical trading. We combine our networks in Japan, Korea and India with commercial coordination, supplier development, market knowledge and pharmaceutical industry experience to help companies establish complex cross-border partnerships.
Our role is to make sure the right companies do not merely meet, but go on to build a commercially viable and sustainable business relationship.
For pharmaceutical companies
Access to competitive manufacturing capability and to alternative supply sources.
For manufacturers
Access to new customers and to regulated markets that are otherwise difficult to enter.
For both sides
The local relationships, coordination and commercial understanding needed to move a project from introduction to long-term collaboration.
